The Opel manufacturing company was founded in 1862 by Adam Opel, and was originally active as a bicycle manufacturer. Opel was so successful in this that they quickly became one of the largest bicycle factories in Germany.

It was also the first model to come off the production line after the Second World War in 1948. This Opel Kapitän was build in 1955 and it came to Netherlands in 2012.
